UAE and the Gulf
The monthly MIS report for UAE and Gulf businesses
In the UAE and across the Gulf the monthly management pack is usually called the MIS. Owners expect it within days of the month end: the profit and loss for the month and year to date, the balance sheet, cash and bank, receivables and payables, the VAT position and a few KPIs, in AED.

What owners in the Gulf look for
Gulf businesses are often owner-managed, sometimes with one owner running several companies: a trading company, a contracting company, a free-zone entity. The MIS they want is short and fast:
- Sales and gross profit for the month, against last month and last year.
- Cash and bank across every account.
- Receivables: who owes what, and for how long. Credit of 60 to 120 days is common in contracting and trading, so the aging matters more than the total.
- Payables and post-dated cheques due in the coming weeks.
- VAT payable or refundable for the current return period.
- Commentary in plain language: what moved, why, and what needs a decision.
UAE details: currency, VAT, corporate tax and the year
- Currency. Books are usually kept in AED; every figure is labelled in the currency the books are kept in, and nothing is converted.
- VAT is 5% in the UAE and 15% in Saudi Arabia. Revenue and costs are net of it; receivables and payables include it, and the liability sits on the balance sheet until the return is paid.
- Corporate tax applies in the UAE to financial years starting on or after 1 June 2023. Magic MIS reports the profit in your books; how much tax to provide is a question for your tax adviser.
- Year and dates. Most UAE companies use January to December, and Tally exports usually write dates day first. Set both once per company and every file is read the same way.
- Several companies are each set up and reported on their own, without consolidation.
A Dubai trading company's September: sales up 8.1%, margin down a point
| Item | September (AED) | Last month (AED) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales | 2,140,000 | 1,980,000 | +8.1% |
| Gross profit | 471,000 (22.0%) | 455,000 (23.0%) | −1.0 point |
| Overheads | 298,000 | 301,000 | −1.0% |
| Net profit before tax | 173,000 | 154,000 | +12.3% |
| Receivables over 90 days | 610,000 | 520,000 | +17.3% |
Sales rose 8.1% to AED 2,140,000, but gross margin slipped a point to 22.0%. Receivables over 90 days grew to AED 610,000.
The company is invented. In Magic MIS the AI writes sentences like those, and the engine fills every figure, each opening to its ledgers; why margin slipped, such as a lower-margin product selling more, is the reviewer's to add.
From Tally, Zoho Books or Odoo, with no connector
Export the trial balance to Excel at the month end and upload it. Tally group names such as Sundry Debtors, Sundry Creditors, Duties & Taxes and Direct Expenses are placed once on report lines; next month only new ledgers need placing. Guides: Tally, Zoho Books, Odoo.
You get a checked Excel workbook with live formulas, a dashboard you change by asking ("show receivables over 90 days"), the month written up in English, Arabic or another language you choose, and a read-only link for the owner that opens on a phone. Prepaid credits, no subscription, and every action shows its price before it runs: see the credit packs. It works in a desktop browser.
What Gulf owners and accountants ask
Is an MIS the same as management accounts?
Yes. MIS is the term in India and the Gulf; the UK says management accounts, the US a monthly financial reporting package.
Can it prepare my VAT return or corporate tax computation?
No. It reports the VAT balance and the profit in your books; returns stay with your tax agent.
Can I run the MIS for several group companies?
Yes, each as its own company. It doesn't consolidate them.
Does it work with TallyPrime?
Yes, from the trial balance you export from Tally or TallyPrime.
