MIS with AI
MIS with AI: an AI MIS report generator that never writes the numbers
Most of the time spent on a monthly MIS is judgement about text: which sheet is which, which ledger belongs where, what to say about the month. That is what AI is good at. The figures are a different matter — so in this product, AI never produces one.
Free to create. No subscription, and credits never expire.
Also called mis report, management accounts, monthly financial reporting, board pack and month-end reporting package, depending on where you are. Every name, explained.
AI does the reading and the wording
Recognises what you loaded
Which sheet is the trial balance, which is a bills register, which column holds the closing balance — from the structure of the file, whatever system exported it.
Maps the ledgers nothing else could
Your confirmed mapping, a library of common ledger names and the ledger's group are tried first. AI proposes a report head only for what is left, and anything it cannot place is shown as Unmapped, never guessed.
Drafts the commentary
Sentences explaining the month's material movements, with a placeholder wherever a figure belongs. The engine fills the placeholders; the draft is rejected if it contains a number of its own.
Answers questions about the report
Ask why margin fell or which customers are overdue. The answer is worked out by queries against your report data, and every figure in it comes from those query results.
AI does not write a single number in the MIS
- Calculate, round or restate any figure. Totals, ratios and variances come from a deterministic engine and are the same every time.
- See your whole files. It receives a sheet's structure, a small redacted sample of rows and ledger names, for a paid action you confirmed.
- Run on a routine month. When the ledger structure has not changed, the monthly refresh makes no AI calls at all.
- Choose its own model or budget. Those are set on the server for each action, and what you pay is the action's standard price in credits, never the AI's running cost.
A report right nineteen months out of twenty cannot be signed off
A report that is right nineteen months out of twenty is not a report anyone can sign off. Keeping AI to recognition, mapping proposals and wording — and keeping every figure in a deterministic engine — means the parts that must be exact are exact, and the parts that need judgement are shown to you before they are used.
It is also why the product gets cheaper to run after the first month. Once the mapping is confirmed, the refresh is arithmetic, and arithmetic needs no AI.
Using AI for an MIS report means giving it the words, not the figures
If you are using AI for an MIS report today, it is most likely a chat assistant with a trial balance pasted in. It will produce something that looks like an MIS, and the trouble starts when you check it: totals that do not add, a ledger counted twice, a percentage worked out on the wrong base. Next month it does the whole thing again from nothing, and may do it differently.
Used well, AI has three jobs in a monthly MIS: recognising what was exported, proposing where each ledger belongs, and writing about the month. In Magic MIS each of those is checked before it is used — a ledger the AI cannot place is shown as Unmapped rather than guessed, and commentary is rejected if it holds a number of its own. The figures come from the engine, the same way every time, and any of them opens onto the ledgers it was added up from.
What people ask about an MIS made with AI
Can AI prepare an MIS report?
AI can do the parts of the work that are judgement about text — recognising files, matching ledger names to report heads, drafting commentary. It should not do the arithmetic. A language model asked to produce figures can produce ones that look right and are not, and in a financial report that is the one failure that matters.
Is there an MIS report generator?
Yes — Magic MIS is one, built on the rule that the generator does not invent figures. It takes the raw exports you already have (a trial balance, ledgers or registers from Tally, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Excel, CSV or PDF) and generates a checked Excel workbook with the P&L and year to date, a balance sheet summary, key ratios and, where the registers are loaded, receivables and payables ageing — with a dashboard and written commentary. AI maps the ledgers and writes the words; every figure is computed by the engine.
How do I know the numbers in an AI-generated report are right?
In Magic MIS no number is AI-generated. Every figure is computed by the engine from your mapped trial balance, the report is checked to tie back to it, and any figure can be traced to the ledgers behind it.
Is my financial data used to train AI models?
No. Your data is not used to train AI models. And what is sent to the model is redacted first: party names and identifiers are replaced with tokens before anything goes to the model.
Does it work with my accounting system?
It works from raw data files rather than a live connection, so any system that can give you a trial balance — to Excel, CSV, PDF or plain text — can be used. Tally's raw reports are recognised in detail, including their group structure.
