Sales MIS

A sales MIS report built from your sales register, the same way every month

Net sales, invoices, customers, returns, tax and collections for the month, against last month and the same month last year — from the registers you export, with every figure traceable to the invoices behind it.

A sales MIS report holds what the sales head is asked about

  • Net sales for the month after credit notes, and the twelve months before it.
  • Sales invoices raised and the average invoice value.
  • Customers billed, how many were new, and the largest customers by sales.
  • How much depends on the top customer and on the top five.
  • Credit notes, and returns as a share of sales.
  • Receipts collected, and the tax charged on sales against the tax on purchases.

The sales MIS comes from documents, the full MIS from the ledger

A trial balance knows the month’s sales total but not who bought, how many invoices it took or whether a customer is new. Those questions need the documents: the sales register, the credit note register, a day book or an invoice list. That is what a sales MIS report reads.

The profit, the costs, the cash and the balance sheet still come from the trial balance, in the full MIS. One Magic MIS account holds both: a Transactions company for the sales MIS and an MIS company for the rest, paid from the same credits.

A sales MIS dashboard instead of a sales MIS report in Excel

The board opens on net sales, invoices, the average invoice and customers, then the twelve-month trend, the top customers, receipts against payments and tax. Ask the assistant beside it to add a figure or change a chart, present it in the review meeting, save it as a PDF, or download the figures to Excel for anyone who still wants the workbook.

Each invoice is counted once, even when it is in both the register and the day book; void and cancelled documents are left out and said so. No AI reads your files, and customer names are shown on your board only.

What people ask about the sales MIS

What is a sales MIS report?

The sales part of the monthly management information: what was sold, to whom, what came back, what was collected and the tax on it, set against last month. It is read by the owner and the sales head, and built from the sales records rather than from the ledger.

How is a sales MIS different from the full MIS?

The full MIS is built from the trial balance: profit, costs, cash, the balance sheet and ratios. A sales MIS is built from the sales documents themselves, so it can say which customers bought, how many invoices went out and what the average one was for — things a ledger total cannot.

Can I keep making the sales MIS report in Excel?

Yes, and the board gives you the figures in Excel whenever you want them. What changes is that you no longer rebuild the workbook each month: you upload the registers and the same report comes out, with each invoice counted once.

Do collections come from the same files?

Receipts come from the day book or a receipts list, if you upload one. Without it the sales figures are complete and the receipts are left blank rather than guessed.
