Customer-wise sales
A customer-wise sales report every month, from the sales register you already export
Who bought, how much, and how that compares with last month — net of credit notes, with the customers who bought for the first time and the share your largest customers carry. Upload the registers or an invoice list; the report is built the same way every month.

Five figures make a customer-wise report worth reading
- Net sales by customer, after the credit notes given to each, largest first.
- How many customers were billed this month, against last month.
- How many of them were new, and how many came back.
- The largest customer's share of net sales, and the top five's together.
- Returns as a share of sales, because a credit note is a sale undone and often a complaint.
A top customers report shows the share, not just the amount
A list of customers by amount says who matters this month. Their share of net sales, beside last month’s, says whether the business is leaning on them more or less. In this invented month, the top five carry just over half of net sales, and the largest customer’s share is growing.
| Customer | Share this month | Last month |
|---|---|---|
| Harbourline Traders | 18% | 15% |
| Quillmark Stores | 11% | 12% |
| Brightwell Foods | 9% | — |
| Oakridge Hardware | 7% | 8% |
| Pennant Distributors | 6% | 6% |
Every figure shown here is invented for illustration. Nothing on this page is computed from anyone’s accounts.
How much share is too much depends on the business; the guide to customer concentration risk has the usual measures.
A customer-wise sales report in Excel breaks in three places
The pivot table is quick to build and slow to keep right. The same invoice turns up in the sales register and in the day book, and adding both counts it twice. Void and cancelled invoices sit in the export with an amount beside them. And a pivot sees one file, so it cannot tell a new customer from one who last bought three months ago.
Here each document is counted once by its kind, number and date, whichever files it appears in; voids are left out and said so; and customers are counted across every month you have loaded. A list whose documents do not add up to the total it prints is pointed out, not trusted.
From Tally Prime, Excel or any invoice list
A customer-wise sales report in Tally Prime starts from the same place as one from any other software: the sales register and the credit note register, exported to Excel. Upload those, a day book, or the invoice list your system prints, as Excel, CSV or PDF. Columns are found by their headings, so your own export is read as it is.
No AI reads the files: every figure is arithmetic on the documents. Customer names appear on your own board and nowhere else, and the assistant beside it knows each customer only as a token.
What people ask about customer-wise sales
How do I make a customer-wise sales report in Excel?
Export the sales register and the credit note register for the month, put them in one sheet with the credit notes as negative amounts, and build a pivot table with the customer in the rows and the sum of the invoice total in the values. Sort it largest first. Keep last month's file beside it if you want the change.
Can I get a customer-wise sales report from Tally Prime?
Yes: export the sales register and the credit note register to Excel and work from those, or upload them here and the report is built for you. The same registers from any other accounting software, or a plain invoice list, work the same way.
Does the report include tax?
Sales by customer are the document totals, tax included, as each customer was billed — which is also what they owe you. Taxable sales, after credit notes and before tax, are a figure of their own beside them. Either compares customers fairly, as long as every month uses the same one.
What counts as a new customer?
A customer billed for the first time in any month you have loaded, not one new to this month's file. A customer who bought in March, skipped April and came back in May is returning in May.
