AI CFO
AI CFO software for small businesses should never write a number
A small business usually cannot justify a full-time CFO, and the part of the job it misses most is the monthly one: knowing where the business stands and what changed. Software can do that part, as long as every figure it shows was computed from the books rather than written by a model.

What an AI CFO can do: report the month, explain it and point at what to look at
The month, in a checked report
The P&L for the month and year to date, a balance sheet, cash flow, ratios and, where the registers are loaded, who owes what and for how long — from the trial balance you close.
What moved, in words
Commentary on the material movements, with every figure in it filled in by the engine rather than written by the model.
Where to act
Suggestions on what to look at next, each with a step and how soon — now, this quarter or watch. Suggestions to consider, not tax, legal or audit advice.
Answers to your questions
Ask why margin fell or which customers are slowest to pay. The answer is worked out from your own figures by queries, and every number in it comes from their results.
What it cannot do: decide, sign off or advise on tax
An AI CFO for small business owners is a reporting assistant, not an officer of the company. It does not set prices, approve spending, file returns or give tax, legal or audit advice, and nothing it suggests is an instruction. The judgement about what the month means stays with you, or with the accountant or virtual CFO you work with.
The numbers a CFO watches, worked out the same way every month
Margins, EBITDA, cash, debtor and creditor days and the rest are computed by a deterministic engine from your mapped trial balance and checked to tie back to it. Open any figure and you see how it is worked out and the ledgers behind it.
Enter a budget for the financial year and every line on the board is set against it, as are the commentary and the suggestions on where to act. The board can project the profit and loss to the year end, show how long cash lasts at its recent rate of change, and tell you when a figure crosses a target you set. Each of those is arithmetic on your own figures, labelled as a projection where it is one.
Monthly, from the books you close, not daily from a bank feed
Some AI CFO software reads your bank account every day and reports the balance. This works the other way: once a month, from the trial balance you export after closing the books, with nothing connected to your bank or ledger. That is the view a board or a lender asks for — the whole month, accrued, reconciled and explained.
An AI virtual CFO for the reporting, and a person for the decisions
If you already have a fractional or virtual CFO, this is the part of their month that is assembly rather than advice. An AI virtual CFO arrangement works when the software produces the checked report and the person spends the meeting on what to do about it — presented live from the board, or sent as a read-only link that can be withdrawn.
Paid per month you report, with no subscription
Magic MIS is paid from prepaid credits per action, with a monthly fee for each active company. Once the ledger mapping is confirmed, a month with the same structure refreshes without any AI calls, which is why the second month costs less than the first. See pricing.
What owners ask about an AI CFO
What is an AI CFO?
Software that does part of what a finance lead does for a small business: reports the month, explains what moved and points at what needs attention. None of it decides anything. The useful question about any AI CFO is where its figures come from — computed from your books, or written by a model.
Can an AI CFO replace a fractional or virtual CFO?
No. It can produce the monthly report a CFO would otherwise spend days assembling, and an AI-powered virtual CFO service is one that hands that part to software and keeps the judgement with a person. The decisions — pricing, hiring, borrowing — stay with the people accountable for them.
Does it forecast cash flow?
Not as a cash flow forecast. It projects the profit and loss to the year end — at the recent run rate, or, for a seasonal business, from the same months last year grown at this year's rate — and shows how long cash lasts at its average change over the last three months. There are no scenarios or what-ifs.
Does it connect to my bank or update every day?
No. It works monthly, from the trial balance and reports you export after the books are closed, with nothing connected to your bank or accounting system. Tools that read a bank feed daily answer a different question: what is in the account today.
Is it safe to give an AI my company's financial data?
No member of our staff can open your files, every opening by the server is on a record you can see, and the AI model receives only a redacted sample and ledger names for an action you started. Your data is not used to train AI models.
